Our Roofing Services
Asphalt Shingles
Fiberglass reinforced asphalt shingle are made with an asphalt-saturated base covered on one or both sides with asphalt or modified asphalt, the exposed surface impregnated with slate, schist, quartz, vitrified brick, stone, or ceramic granules to give colour to the exposed part of the shingle. The under-side treated with sand, talc, or mica to prevent shingles from sticking to one-another before use.
The top surface granules block ultra-violet light, which causes the shingles to deteriorate, provides some physical protection of the asphalt core, and provides colour.
Some shingles have copper or other biocides added to the surface to help prevent algae growth.
Benefits:
- Economical and popular
- Requires minimum maintenance
- Easy to install
- More tear-resistant
- Hides imperfections on the roof’s deck
- Better at withstanding changes in temperature
- Warranty is usually 20-40 years according to the model
Drawbacks:
- Some models are less resistant to heavy rains, strong winds and hail
Metal Roof or Galvanized Steel
Galvanization protects the metal against corrosion over several decades. Available in large sheets or shingles.
Benefits:
- Good durability (approx. 50 years)
- Corrosion-resistant
- Does not crack, split or break
- Lightweight
- Very minimal maintenance
- 40-year Limited Warranty
- Many colours available (e.g., blue, red, grey, green)
Drawbacks:
- Expensive
- If done poorly, sometimes it’s not fixable and has to be redone
- In winter, can create a snow slide
- Can get dented from hail
Cedar Shingles
Comes in natural, pre-stained or pre-aged shingles. The weathered look of pre-aged shingles adds old-world charm to a home, something many homeowners are looking for.
Benefits:
- Attractive and natural
- Rot-proof
- Naturally insect-resistant
- More common in warmer climate zones
- Extra-A Grade used for roofing
- You can use an oil to whiten or age the cedar
- Can be factory-stained.
- Comes in many shapes: rectangular, round, diamond, hexagonal
- Different colours and stains to choose from
- Warranty is usually 30 years
Drawbacks:
- High installation costs
- Require periodic maintenance
- Flammable material
- Expensive
- Don’t last long enough in Alberta in comparison to the cost because of dry climate
- Wood picker and squirrels can damage the roof
Do you like the look of cedar shingles or shakes? We like using Enviroshake products; they’re engineered but look like authentic cedar and they have a lifetime warranty.

Slate Tiles
One of the longest lasting tiles for roofing on the market, prized for its beauty, durability and longevity.

- 50-year warranty
Drawbacks:

- Very expensive
